Richard Hibbard’s hair takes a back seat after gruesome facial injury.

“Worst Lid”

If I was to play the game ‘word association’ and someone said ‘Richard Hibbard’ my immediate response would be… ‘Worst Lid’

My answer could be about to change after the Welsh and Dragons hooker suffered a nasty looking facial injury on the weekend when the Dragons came up against Clermont in the Challenge Cup and Hibbard suffered what can only be described as a ‘gruesome’ injury to his lip.

He shared the image of the injury on his social media accounts with the caption “Ohh how I love this game!!  ??? Proper face for radio. ??‍♂️??‍♂️”

It’s not the first nasty facial injury that Hibbard has received. Back in February 2016 he shared the below image following a game playing for Gloucester.

Maybe Hibbard’s blonde flowing locks have detracted attention from the effects of the above nose injury but it looks to have healed pretty well and here’s hoping the lip does the same.

Former UFC Welter-Weight Champion ”Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler suffered a very similar injury in a Championship bout back in 2015.

Who wore it better? Hibbard gets our vote.

Dan Carter issues post surgery update

Picture from Dan Carter Instagram

World Cup winning All Black, Dan Carter took to Instagram this morning to provide an update after having surgery on his neck.

Carter was due to move to Racing 92 as a medical joker last month, coming in to provide cover for the recently retired Pat Lambie. A deal had been signed and sealed but Carter failed the medical due to the discovery of a neck issue which has forced the former Crusader’s 10 under the knife.

Carter had previously played with Racing 92, picking up a Top 14 title during his time there. More recently he has been playing in the Japanese Top League with Kobelco Steelers. The Steelers granted Carter a temporary release from his contract to take up a short term contract with the Paris based side, Racing 92.

Carter has now had the surgery on his neck to hopefully resolve the issue and posted the below message on his Instagram.

“Another challenge to conquer”

While this injury has nullified his chances of returning to European rugby, Carter is optimistic it will not end his playing career. The 37 year old is hoping to return to his side in Japan, where he will be hoping to win another Top League title with the Steelers.

Freddie Burns sends classy message to Jacob Stockdale.

Rory Best also spoke out.

Bath Out-half Freddie Burns has reached out to Ulster Wing Jacob Stockdale offering the Irish star support on Twitter following his costly error against Leinster in the Champions Cup Quarter Final.

The 22-year-old shredded up the Leinster’s defence, crossing the whitewash only to knock the ball on when placing it down for a try.

Many online have been quick to criticise Stockdale including former Ireland captain Brian O’Driscoll.

With the score at 13-11 to Ulster at the time, a converted try would have put Ulster two scores ahead and in a very dominant position to clinch victory.

Burns will know exactly how Stockdale feels after he made a game defining boo-boo in Round 1 against Toulouse when he had the ball slapped out of his hand by Maxime Medard while scoring a try. He recently spoke about the incident on BT Sport describing the incident as ‘ Best thing that happened to me’. You can see the interview here.

Burns has put it behind him and has urged Stockdale to do the same.

Following the game, Stockdale posted the below picture and caption on his personal Instagram.

Rory Best was quick to back his teammate, commenting on the post

” Also, don’t forget to remember the world class moment u had during the game #collective”

Top 10 Gruesome rugby injuries

Published

Some people can’t look, others can’t look away.

When someone goes down, are you the person that’s on the edge of your seat waiting to see the replay or are you hiding behind the sofa, if it’s the latter, then don’t bother scrolling any further.

Just this week we saw another pretty horrid looking rugby injury with Josh Navidi dislocating his elbow with the moment caught on camera.

With social media playing such a big part of rugby nowadays, often players treat us to the aftermath of their injuries and some of them are rather spectactular. We’ve pulled a few together.

Paddy Wallace:

Let’s kick things off with an oldy. Former Ulster and Irish centre Paddy Wallace went under the knife for thumb surgery and his surgeon was kind enough to supply a few snaps.

Scott Baldwin:

Remember the story of the Osprey’s star who had a run in with a lion…

David Pocock:

Nicholas Schonert:

The Worcester Warriors star had an altercation with the studs of Maro Itoje that required 40 stitches. #Whysoserious

Lachie Munroe:

“No kisses for at least 2 weeks”

James Horwill:

Valentin Courrent:

Imagine scoring a try, yelling with delight to discover you now have 3 lips.

Census Johnston:

Brian O’Driscoll:

Ben Ross:

Do you remember seeing a video of former Wallaby Wendell Sailor breaking some poor guys arm in an arm wrestle? It was this guy. Former Rugby League Star Ben Ross. Check this out for damage and if you’re brave, the video of the break below.

New Entries:

With every game week that goes past, we get new injuries. Here’s a few more recent injuries that could soon make their way into the Top 10:

Kylan Hamdaoui:

The Stade Francais Full Back took to Twitter after his most recent ‘bump’. The Tweet translated reads: “25 stitches and fracture of the orbital floor, normally without operation we will know in the coming days ?? a big thank you to all and all for your messages! ? A big thought for Tony and congratulations to the team for the victory at 13 against 15 ⚡️?”
