Eight Springbok players have decided to extend their stay with Western Province Rugby and play for the Stormers in Super Rugby.
Top of the list is Rugby World Cup winning captain Siya Kolisi, who along with the others has agreed contract extensions that will run through until 2021.
As well as Kolisi this year’s World Rugby Player of the Year Pieter-Steph du Toit has agreed a deal, with fellow Springboks Bongi Mbonambi, Damien Williemse, Frans Malherbe, Steven Kitshoff, Scarra Ntubeni and Dillyn Leyds all doing the same.
Speaking on the deals Kolisi believes that the franchise can now move forward and reach the goals that they expect to achieve.
“I have been playing with some of these guys my whole career and we are all looking forward to reaching new heights in a Stormers jersey. We have a strong group of senior players and talented youngsters coming through all the time, which is what we need to reach our goal of rewarding the Faithful for their incredible support. I know it has been a tough few years for us and our Faithful, we really appreciate them for sticking with us and hopefully we will have plenty to celebrate in the future,â? he said.
Along with the star names to have committed to the club there are a host of youngsters that have done the same with Junior Springboks captains Salmaan Moerat and Ernst van Rhyn among them.
It is a huge boost for the South African outfit, who are looking to build on the Springboks recent success at club-level and with the names on their roster you wouldnât bet against them doing just that.
