Connacht take on Munster this weekend in the Guinness PRO14 in what is a bumper derby weekend across the competition and they are aiming to break a world record in the process.
The Irish province are hosting their southern rivals and they are hoping to make the new world record for the number of people wearing high-visibility vests in the same location at the same time.
The attempt is in partnership with their commercial partner Portwest, who have just launched a new road safety campaign and believe this will help raise awareness.
“We have an excellent partnership with Portwest and are delighted to be part of their road safety campaign. With the bumper crowd expected on Saturday evening, I’m sure supporters will really get behind the unique world record attempt,” said Brian Mahony, Connacht’s head of commercial and marketing.
The current record stands at 2,499 people, however, Connacht’s home ground, the Sportsground, is set to have an attendance of 8,129 people this Saturday and the club hope that enough of them will participate to break the record.
While they attempt records off the pitch the team will be looking to overtake their Munster counterparts in the Conference B table with the two currently sitting in first and second in the conference and separated only by a point.
Following last weekend’s Champions Cup victory over Gloucester will mean confidence will be high for the Westerners, and if they win while setting the world record it could be a great night in Galway.
