Cardiff Blues back-liner Willis Hahaholo has been ruled out for quite a while after suffering an injury during Saturday’s European Challenge Cup game against Leicester Tigers.

The Welsh club have announced that Hahaholo picked up an acute anterior cruciate ligament injury and will undergo surgery next week ahead of his rehabilitation.

There is no definite timeline for his return due to the extent of the injury, but he is out of Wales’ clash with the Barbarians on Saturday, with Scott Williams coming in as his replacement.

It is a shame for the Blues star who was part of a five-man group of players set to wear the Welsh jersey for the first time if selected to play, however, the game in classed as uncapped so he would still be waiting for his first cap either way.

He also misses out on the chance to impress new head coach Wayne Pivac during his first time with the squad throughout training this week.

His inclusion in the squad caused a bit of a stir as both he and fellow uncapped player Johnny McNicholl are both New Zealand-born, with some fans and ex-professionals unhappy with their inclusion.

Although the squad already has a New Zealand-born player in Hadleigh Parkes, so it is no surprise to see them being given the opportunity, but it is now certain that Hahaholo will have to wait a little longer for his first stint on the international stage.
