Glasgow Warriors have secured the services of two Argentine tighthead props on differing deals the PRO14 club have confirmed.
Coming in on a short-term contract starting next week is 34-year-old Gaston Cortes, who is swapping Premiership side Leicester Tigers for the Scottish giants. While Warriors’ youngster Charlie Capps will head in the other direction until the end of the current campaign.
Meanwhile, their other new addition to the squad is 25-year-old prop Enrique Pieretto, who will join the team at the start of next season from current Premiership leaders the Exeter Chiefs.
Pieretto became well known back in 2016 when he was banned for seven weeks following a stamp on English ace Joe Marler, but more recently played his part in the draw between the Chiefs and the Warriors in the Champions Cup last month, so he will be well aware of the atmosphere at Scotstoun.
Speaking on the move, which sees him sign a two-year-deal Pieretto believes that he can develop as a player under the coaches and among the players within the Glasgow set-up.
“Glasgow Warriors is a great club with great players and I chose to join to improve and grow as a player. I can learn a lot from the coaches and players. It’s a good opportunity for me and I’m extremely grateful for that. I spoke to Danny and he told me about his plans for the future. I’m excited about his vision and I’m looking forward to playing for him and the other coaches. It’s a fast pitch at Scotstoun and the fans are really noisy. I enjoyed playing there last month with Exeter Chief,” he said.
Pieretto becomes incoming head coach Danny Wilson’s second permanent signing ahead of next season, having already agreed a deal to bring in Scotland lock Richie Gray from Toulouse as the Warriors look to push on at domestic and European level.
