Scotland forward Sam Skinner has been ruled out of the Rugby World Cup in Japan due to injury.

The news was confirmed today with Skinner picking up a hamstring injury during their 17-14 win over France on Saturday leaving him unavailable due to the length of time needed to recover.

In his absence Glasgow Warriors’ Tim Swinson
has been invited to train with the squad ahead of the announcement of their
31-man squad for the tournament in Japan when it’s confirmed on September 3rd.

Skinner is not the only Scottish star that is
making Gregor Townsend sweat ahead of the squad announcement as Tommy Seymour
and Blade Thomson also sustained injuries during the win.

However, the duo are expected to go through
the return to play head injury protocol and to be in contention for selection.

Scotland open up their World Cup campaign with a crunch clash against rivals Ireland in Yokohama on September 22nd before facing hosts Japan, Russia and Samoa in Pool A where they will hope to progress to the quarter-finals once again.
