Newcastle Falcons’ back-rower Freddie Lockwood will benefit from increased opportunities for game time after joining Jersey Reds on dual-registration.

The 21-year-old has made 10 appearances for the Falcons, and was this summer promoted into the first team squad on a two-year deal.

That progression will now continue with Championship club Jersey before returning to Newcastle, with head coach Dave Walder explaining how the move is to the benefit of all parties.

He said: “Freddie is another one of our talented academy graduates who has shown a lot of promise during his early appearances for us.

“He did very well at Darlington Mowden Park in National One on dual-registration, and now it’s about getting some more regular senior rugby at a good level to really refine the detail of his game.

“We’ve had lots of players go to the Championship and come back better for the experience, like Cameron Nordli-Kelemeti at Jersey recently and Conrad Cade at Doncaster.

“Freddie will be an asset to Jersey during his time over there, and this is an important part of his longer-term development as a Newcastle Falcons player.”
