Dan Carter is returning to European Rugby. Racing 92 today confirmed the news via their Twitter.

The rumours had been circling and we did report over a month ago but Racing 92 President all but shut down the rumours.

The All Black legend spent 3 years with the Parisian side between 2015 and 2018, winning the Top 14 title in 2016.

Carter, now 36 is reported to have signed as a ‘medical joker’, with his current side Kobelco Steelers giving him a temporary release from his contract. He is expected to join the squad in March and will play until season end.

Racing 92 have been in the market for fly-half cover after Pat Lambie was forced to retire earlier this season and for Finn Russell who is often on Scotland duty.

Carter took to instagram shortly after the announcement with this message:

Excited to be joining my Ciel et Blanc brothers for the remainder of the Top 14 Season in France. I’m coming back mid season as a Medical Joker. It was very sad to hear about @patlambie_’s decision to retire as he has done so much for international rugby. Thank you to my family for their continued support, and thank you to @racing92 for the opportunity. I’m looking forward to getting back on the pitch! #rugby #top14 #sports #france
