Moses Mbye’s career across the NRL and Super League

Mbye finished with more than 260 first-grade appearances across the NRL and Super League. His career included spells with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, Wests Tigers, St George Illawarra Dragons and St Helens.

The Noosa junior first made his mark at Belmore, where he recorded almost 100 games for the Bulldogs across five seasons. He moved to the Tigers in 2018 and captained the club from 2019 to 2020.

His next move took him to Wollongong in 2022, where he played in a utility role for the Dragons for a season and a half before leaving early to continue his career in England.

From St Helens to the Ipswich Jets

Mbye spent three seasons with St Helens before returning to Australia. During 2026, he played for the Ipswich Jets in the QLD Cup.

His role at Ipswich extended beyond playing. He was given co-captaincy and also worked as a program and development manager, helping push standards and excellence on and off the field.

That blend of playing and leadership reflected a career built around versatility. Mbye operated across almost every position in the backline and spine, giving coaches an adaptable option throughout his career.

Moses Mbye’s State of Origin and NRL highlights

Mbye’s versatility was also evident at representative level. He made his State of Origin debut in 2019, playing all three matches of the series and starting the decider at centre.

Earlier in his NRL career, he stepped into the hooker role for the 2014 Grand Final after captain Michael Ennis was ruled out with two separate fractures in his foot. Mbye played 65 minutes and recorded 45 tackles, missing two.

Mbye announced the end of his career on Instagram, writing:

“Officially retired. Forever in debt to the game!!”

After 13 years in the NRL and a substantial period in the Super League, Mbye’s playing career has come to an end following the injury that ended his season.
