Saracens boss Mark McCall has told BBC how Owen Farrell tried his hardest to make their Champions Cup quarter-final despite his wife being in labour.
Farrell was a late withdrawal from the team that faced Glasgow on Saturday at 3 15, due to his wife going into labour on Friday night.
However, Farrell tried his best to be a part of both events according to McCall.
“He phoned me at 2.30 and said, ‘in the next half hour’. I said ‘Owen, the game starts at 3.15! I don’t actually know if he’s had the baby yet. We had a rough cut-off point. His wife went into labour last night. At 8.30am he was pretty confident it would all happen, but it didn’t. But the important thing was that he was where he should have been – with his wife,” he told BBC.
Thankfully for Farrell his side ran out 56-27 winners to progress to the semi-finals while he got to spend time with his wife and new-born.
