Saracens have announced that both Mako and Billy Vunipola are within the club set-up despite reports yesterday claiming the former was ‘self-isolating’ as a precaution towards the coronavirus after returning from Hong Kong.
The reports yesterday stated that Mako Vunipola was set to link-up with the England squad ahead of this weekend’s clash with Wales, but the Rugby Football Union announced that he would instead ‘self-isolate’ himself after returning on a flight from Hong Kong on his way home from Tonga.
However, Saracens have confirmed that despite that statement Mako will now be available for selection for their Premiership game this weekend.
“Billy Vunipola and Mako Vunipola returned to Saracens after visiting family in Tonga which included a short stop at Hong Kong airport. Travellers returning from Hong Kong are not currently subject to mandatory quarantine or self-isolation unless they become symptomatic. Neither Billy or Mako have displayed symptoms of the coronavirus and on their return to London were assessed by the club’s medical staff. The duo have been around the Saracens environment for the past couple of days, with the latter available for selection this weekend. Saracens will continue to follow the Public Health England and World Health Organisation regulations surrounding coronavirus and the medical staff will be closely monitoring Billy and Mako on a regular basis,” a statement from Saracens read.
Billy Vunipola is still out at the moment after breaking his arm earlier this year which ruled him out of England’s Six Nations campaign.
Although Mako will now possibly feature as the already relegated side take on the Leicester Tigers at Allianz Park this Saturday.
