Super Rugby side the Sunwolves have confirmed the signings of Springboks pair JJ Engelbrecht and Rudy Paige from Clermont ahead of the 2020 season.
The duo are both 30 and bring the Sunwolves total number of foreign players to 19 as they head into their final season in the competition.
Engelbrecht brings a wealth of Super Rugby experience to the table having played for both the Bulls and the Stormers before his stint in France and also has 12-test caps to his name for the Boks.
It’s a similar story with Paige, who has racked up over 50 Super Rugby appearances with the Bulls, as well as having Currie Cup and PRO14 experience with the Cheetahs to add to his time in France and his 13 international caps.
The pair join a squad full of foreign talent as mentioned above with the likes of former England-centre Ben Te’o and former Wallaby Jake Schatz at the Japanese side.
It means that within their 25-man strong squad only six are homegrown Japanese players, with the franchise struggling to bring top talent in due to the Japanese Top League’s decision to move their season in-line with the Super Rugby calendar.
The Sunwolves will be hoping that their latest stars will help make their final season in the competition one to remember.
