Scotland scrum-half Ai Price has been ruled out of the remainder of the Rugby World Cup in Japan due to injury.
Price picked up a foot and ankle injury during Sunday’s 27-3 defeat to Ireland on Sunday and after undergoing scans he has discovered he will play no further part in the tournament.
Edinburgh No 9 Henry Pyrgos has now been called up to the side as cover, while Price will now return back to Scotland and join the injured Hamish Watson on the sidelines, but head coach Gregor Townsend believes the team will cope without them.
“We’re disappointed for Ali to have to return home so early in the tournament. Both Ali and Hamish had invested a lot of effort into being in their best physical shape for the World Cup and it’s a shame that they’ve only been involved in one game, however we have a lot of belief in our wider group and the two new players, Magnus Bradbury and Henry Pyrgos, who have been given this opportunity,â? he said.
Pyrgos is expected to join the remainder of the squad in Japan on Thursday, while Watson, who was officially ruled out with a knee injury yesterday, will be replaced by Magnus Bradbury who is already with the squad.
Scotland will hope that the players settle in as quickly as possible as they look to prepare for a vital clash with Samoa next Monday, which will be seen as a must win after their loss to Ireland.
