Leinster have begun their search for a new scrum coach according to reports as John Fogarty looks set for a role with Ireland’s national team.
With there being widespread reports that Fogarty will link up with Andy Farrell when he takes the Irish reigns from Joe Schmidt following the World Cup later this year, Leinster are wasting no time in seeking out a replacement.
Top of the list appears to be Robin McBryde, who has served as an assistant to Warren Gatland at Wales since 2006. His current contract is set to expire when the World Cup concludes meaning he would be available exactly when Leinster need him.
From his time in Wales he has been a part of three Grand Slam winning campaigns and took control of the team with Rob Howley on the three years that Gatland was on Lions duty.
Along with his understanding of the European game, he could be a huge addition to the reigning Pro14 and Champions Cup winners.
The other name being mentioned at the moment is Hurricanes scrum coach Dan Cron, who is the son of scrum doctor Mike Cron. Cron Snr worked with several teams including New Zealand, and Cron Jnr has been involved with the Hurricanes since 2011, trying to learn the ropes.
Although it has not been confirmed that Fogarty will leave, rumours are strong that he will not be at Leinster next season. If he does depart, it is certain that the blues will have no shortage of names to choose from with their developing squads among the best in the world.
