Barbarians coach Pat Lam has said that he was unable to pick Danny Cipriani as he has been placed on a restricted list of players by Twickenham.
Many had thought that the Gloucester fly-half would be selected by Lam and given a chance to shine before the World Cup.
However, it appears as though Cipriani’s sensational debut season with Gloucester has caught the eye of England head coach and Lam believes this could be the biggest hint yet that the No 10 could head to the Rugby World Cup.
“I spoke with Danny but he wasn’t available. I’m predicting that the players who weren’t available – and this isn’t guaranteed – will be in their World Cup squads. He was unavailable because there are some players that want to play but they have to be signed off by the unions, or their clubs,” he said.
Fans have been calling for Cipriani’s inclusion in the England squad for some time now and by winning both the Premiership Players’ Player of the Year and Player of the Year awards Jones would come under serious backlash if he wasn’t at least involved in the training camps.
Lam is currently preparing for the Barbarians match against and England XV on Sunday which includes former Red Rose Joe Marler, but with the Baa Baas being denied access to Cipriani one can only wonder what is in store for the Gloucester man next.
