England Rugby are hopeful Luke Cowan-Dickie will be in contention to play in their Autumn Nations series opener against Argentina at Twickenham on Saturday week.

The Exeter Chiefs hooker was forced off at half time during his side’s Gallagher Premiership loss at home to Saracens last Saturday with a knee injury.

Post-game, Chiefs head coach Ali Hepher admitted it was too early to know the extent of the injury, but the Cornishman did report to England’s training camp in Jersey on Monday.

Although his involvement in training has been so far limited, England forwards coach Richard Cockerill today gave a more positive outlook moving forward.

“Luke took part in some units (training) this morning. As far as I’m aware, it’s settling down. There’s every chance that he will train fully next week.”

Head coach Eddie Jones will hope that Cowan-Dickie does recover in time to be fully operational again at the start of next week, so he can be available to face the Pumas and ensure England don’t have to take on the powerful South Americans without their two leading hookers. Jamie George has already been ruled out of the entire November campaign with a foot injury.
