DHL Stormers Head Coach John Dobson has signed a contract extension which will keep him at the helm until at least 2027.

Having first joined the Western Province Rugby structures in 2010, Dobson has since developed into a world-class coach who has tasted success at every level.

After winning a national championship with DHL Western Province U21, Dobson was appointed Head Coach of the senior DHL Western Province team in 2015 and guided them to the Currie Cup title in 2017.

He was appointed as DHL Stormers Head Coach in 2020 and in 2022 saw his team lift the Vodacom United Rugby Championship trophy in front of their faithful supporters at DHL Stadium.

The inspirational Head Coach has also brought a tight-knit management team with him through the ranks, to form a formidable coaching unit with a proven record of producing international stars.

Dobson’s teams have always been renowned for their eye-catching brand of rugby, which is a reflection of the way the game has been played in the Western Cape for generations.

Dobson said that he could not be happier to continue as Head Coach for the next four years.

“I grew up in Cape Town as part of a rugby family, so this is a dream job for me and I wouldn’t want to coach anywhere else.

“I have been very lucky to be surrounded by an outstanding coaching and support team and I am very excited about what we can achieve together in the coming years.

“This is a special place and we have a very real connection with the people who support this team, which makes this such a stimulating and rewarding environment.

“The structures we have set up here and the continuous stream of talent coming through in the region will hopefully combine to put this team where it should be among the best in the world,” he said.
